Maulana Tariq Jameel is known for his Islamic lectures and his way of delivering the lectures. He has influenced many people from all walks of life, from actors to cricketers and layman.
Maulana Tariq Jameel sahib was born on 1st of October, 1953 in Tulamba, Mian Channu. Maulana sahib belongs to a landlord family. He is a Chauhan Rajput by cast, while his tribe is Sahu. They were the ruling elders of Taulamba from the time of Sher Shah Suri.
Maulana Tariq Jameel got his early education from Central Model School, Lahore. Then he went to Government College University, Lahore, where he studied pre-medical and then got admission in King Edwards Medical College, Lahore.
However, Maulana Sahib did not complete his MBBS as his desire towards religious studies grew. According to Maulana Sahib, he had a roommate who belonged to Tablighe Jamaat so often Tablighe people would come after him. They also tried to preach him but he never had interest in that, although he admired them for being so polite, down to earth and peaceful. After sometime passed, maulana sahib was sitting in a café taking tea with his friends that Azan (Muslim’s prayer call) was delivered.
He noticed a disabled student who couldn’t walk came down from the second floor, did Wazu and went to the mosque dragging his legs using the help of his hands. Maulana Sahib says that that was the moment when something clicked in my heart. That fellow student made me think that it’s time for prayer and he is a disabled person, he had an excuse he could pray in his room or even skip it.
But he still was going to the mosque, while he was alright and in good health but still didn’t even get up. That was his turning point. So, he left King Edwards Medical College and joined Jamia Arabia, Raiwind. There he studied, Quraan, Hadith, Logic, Sufism and Islamic Jurisprudence.
Maulana Tariq Jameel belongs to Deobandi School of thoughts. One of his sons, Maulana Yousuf Jameel, also has followed in his steps and chose the path of Islam. Maulana sahib also the founder of a religious institute, Al-Husnain, in Tulamba. Financially, he himself supports this institute.
Maulana sahib has a very unique and heart touching way of delivering religious lectures and sermons. He delivers lectures both nationally and internationally. He mainly focuses on sectarian harmony, peace, being humble, avoiding violence and forgiveness. He preaches about following Allah’s orders and the path of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.W.
According to Jordan’s Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, Tariq Jameel sahib is one among The 500 Most Influential Muslim in the World list (2013 to 2019). In the year 2020, Maulana Tariq Jameel sahib was awarded with Pride of Performance (a national literary award) by the government of Pakistan, which was presented to him by the president of Pakistan Arif Alvi.
